Fly Fishing on the Wellow Brook: From Midford to Wellow Ford

Wellow-visitors map.png

Fly Fishing on the Wellow Brook from Wellow Ford to Midford.

Located in the beautiful Wellow Valley, south of Bath, the Wellow Brook is a delight for the fly-fishing angler.  The seven beats on this secluded section of water provide a variety of small stream fishing environments - the lower beats being deep and slow-moving; the upstream beats offering classic stream water comprising riffles, glides, runs, bends, pools etc mostly natural but in places enhanced by broken weirs and deflectors.  The bankside vegetation is varied - some sections wooded and some with sparse trees only.  With abundant insect life, including mayflies, olives, caddis, and terrestrials, the fishing can be exceptional, especially on warm summer evenings when trout sip flies from the surface. Dry-fly purists will love the challenge, while those who enjoy Czech nymphing or traditional upstream nymphing will also find plenty of opportunities. The lower beats of the Wellow are trickle stocked with rainbow trout.  All brown trout are strictly catch and release.
